Stay cool and Get tattoos
4 years ago, I went to Indonesia for 2 weeks as an international volunteer teaching in an orphanage. Then guess what I’ve found out. It’s a country that offers endless exploration and diversity, and an amazing place with friendly people, fascinating culture, incredible wildlife and nature with pristine beaches, jungle and a lot of active volcanoes.
Well I have my own way to preserve memory for eternity. To me, tattoo is something represents the unique past experience of individual. During those 2 weeks, more than being a “teacher”, I felt a genuine friendship with the children in the orphanage, who are affectionate and adorable (taking photos of them is prohibited in this orphanage so there would not be any photo about the children here in the website). I loving having Eka helping me with figuring out how to wear the traditional Indonesian custom, having Riny teach me Indonesian, and helping Ardy with his math exam…… I nevertheless leave with meaningful experiences as well as lessons learned from the children. Be positive, be grateful and always feel blessed.
I always believe life is basically about making choices. It doesn’t really matters how much you got from the very beginning. Whenever, and wherever, I look at it, it reminds me that choices define us, and I define those choices.
The tattoo is design by my Indonesian friend, Lelox and me. He is a part-time volunteer in the orphanage but also a tattoo artist. The center of my tattoo is a mini-map of the world, surrounding with compass and hour wheel. Outermost is covered by Indonesian traditional patterns.
